Comparison to Rio
As part of this project we had to choose a world class city to compare Brisbane to. After much discussion, we chose Rio de Janeiro.
About tourism in Rio
Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil, on the South Atlantic coast. Rio is famous for its stunning landscape, its beautiful beaches and its annual carnival. Beaches such as Copacabana and Ipanema, the Christ The Redeemer statue, the stadium of Marcana and Sugar loaf Mountain are all well known tourist attractions. It is a very cultural and vibrant city, with plenty on offer. Unfortunately, it is also known for its violence and crime.
Compared to Brisbane?
They are hard to compare. Rio is big, old, culturally rich and more well known. Brisbane is a smaller, younger city that is definitely not yet at the same level.. This doesn't mean that Brisbane is bad, it is just simply not fair to compare cities that are in two completely different leagues. One thing that Brisbane does have over Rio is safety. Whilst Rio is well known for its violence and crime, Brisbane is considered to be quite a safe city.
